As the cold weather has made its presence well known, it is time to put layering my outfits into full effect.
I am a person that is always cold. I had to figure out how to add layers to my outfits without looking like I have a million layers on and be able to move freely whether I am in the classroom, running errands, or out for the night.
The first piece of clothing that I always wear to stay warm is a camisole underneath every shirt, dress, sweater that I wear. It is the one major piece of clothing I highly suggest that you add. My sister has been doing this for years because she gets cold easily and she would always tell me that I should be wearing one underneath my clothes. I would roll my eyes at her because I was already wearing a heavy sweater, why add another piece underneath? Let me tell you, it truly is a game changer. Wearing a camisole keeps your body heat trapped closer to your body; therefore, keeping you warmer. There were days last week that I did not wear a camisole under my sweaters and I was freezing at work. Aside from those two days, I always put one underneath whatever I am wearing.
C and I went to Assisi over the holiday break and I wore a camisole under this denim dress and the sweater dress that I wore the next day. I was able to brave the cold a lot better due to have the extra layer underneath my dress. While we were wandering around the charming city, I never felt the need to find somewhere to go to get out of the cold because of the layering I had done.
Another key to layering is wearing socks with stockings/tights. It is really important to keep your feet warm because they will keep the rest of your body warm. Have you ever noticed when you were cold that your feet were also cold? It is all connected, which is why I always wear socks with my stockings/tights. My feet stayed warm the entire time we were walking around Assisi and the first day was freezing!!
My favorite accessory, the scarf, is my last key piece to layering. Scarves keep our necks and chest warm when they are wrapped up, they can act as a blanket if we wrap them around our shoulders, or we can wrap them around our heads and neck when it is windy to keep our head, ears, and neck warm. Scarves are multi-purposeful and can add a statement to any outfit when it is a pattern or vibrant color. I am never without a scarf in the winter and it is the second thing I grab to keep me warm next to a camisole. I am forever picking up new scarves – C and I bought matching ones when we were in Assisi and I absolutely love the checkered pattern.
Try these layering techniques: adding a camisole underneath your clothes, wearing socks with your stockings/tights, and always have a scarf with you. Leave a comment below or on my Instagram to let me know if any of these tips have helped you!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!
