Bright colors and I have always played a song and dance with each other. In the summer months, I absolutely love them – they are fun, playful, and look great with my tan. 🙂 During the colder months, I steer clear of them. For these upcoming, dreary months, I told myself that I would try and wear brighter colors.
I immediately new when Arielle Charnas from Something Navy came out with her next collection at Nordstrom that this yellow sweater needed to get added to my wardrobe. It looked incredibly soft, which it is, but it was the perfect pop of color that I was looking for to brighten up my wardrobe. Yellow is such a happy color and when you see anything yellow, you cannot help but smile. Anyone else feel the same way?
I am a sucker for any soft sweater and if I’m singing it’s praises, you know it’s good. Something Navy’s last two releases have been on point. Her sweaters have been so soft and made ofv great quality. She and her team have been posting pictures of the February collection and I already have my eye on some pieces! There are some bright colors in the collection that I can see myself adding to my wardrobe. Slowly but surely bright colors will make their way in for the winter.
The season is gloomy enough and what we wear should make us feel good, lift our spirits. Colors really do effect our mood. Yesterday my outfit was black and white – black top, houndstooth print pants, and black ballet flats. I mean, come on now. I gravitate towards black, it’s a problem, I know! 🙂 I’m working on it. Anyway, my point is this, that was my outfit, the weather was beyond dreary, and my students were so off it was even funny (I felt like yesterday should have been Friday!). Combine all of those factors with a pretty much all black outfit – you can guess my mood by the end of the day. Maybe a pop of color would have helped? 🤷🏻♀️Who knows? My mood may not have been as bleak, maybe I would have been more up beat. I truly believe colors effect our moods. In the summer, I feel so good when I am wearing something bright.
On another note, let’s talk about something else that is going to make my future bright. Taking my hair care to another level. In 2018, I was super lazy when it came to doing anything for my hair. When I washed it, I blew dry it and that was it – I’m not talking at home blow out. I’m talking straight up drying my hair with the hair dryer and then running a brush through it. Maybe I ran a straightener through it if the back was really wavy. The only time I semi took care of it was when I curled it. I would put heat protecter spray on my hair and then curl. Why I had this outlook towards my hair, I have no idea. But as I was looking back at pictures it just made me shake my head. I should be doing more to make my hair look and feel healthy.
This year, I’m being more cognizant of what I’m doing to my hair for several reasons. One being, I want healthy, strong hair and I want it to stay that way. Washing it every other day because it’s sweaty from my workouts was not great for my hair. I’ve been using other methods to prolong my washes so I am washing my hair less. I also switched up the vitamins I take for my hair and hoping that will make a difference. Another big reason for these changes is my hair is the first thing that is effected when I get stressed out. My hair used to be a lot thicker and about two and a half years ago, I was insanely stressed out about school and life. It took a toll on my mind but my hair was effected the most. I was losing so much hair and my hair has never really bounced back.
2019 is all about breaking habits, creating new ones, and truly taking care of myself. Stay tuned for a longer blog post on some other new habits I am creating!
Thanks for stopping by today! Happy Wednesday! We are almost through the first full work week of 2019!
