My three week European vacation has officially begun! I am so excited that it is finally here. Lauren and I only spent the day in Madrid before catching a plane to Ibiza (where I currently am!).
The first stop was to the Royal Palace. Our hotel, Hotel Principe Pio, was across the street from the garden. The garden outside the palace was small but pretty. We decided to tour the palace which took about an hour. It was definitely worth the trip to see all the artwork and architecture of the building.
I love light posts!
Guarding the Palace!
This is the Catedral de la Almudena that is across the square from the Royal Palace. We did not go inside to see the cathedral but it looked beautiful from the outside!
My favorite part! The food!
If you guys go to Madrid, you need to go to the Mercado de San Miguel. It was AMAZING! They had all different kinds of food there from fish to meats to cheeses to desserts; there were different wine bars and beer stands. We stopped in here for a late lunch. Naturally Lauren and I each got an olive plate from the olive bar with all different kinds of stuffed olives; it was so hard to choose! We did a cheese plate as well and went to a wine bar where the bartender gave us a wine that paired well with cheese. AMAZING! I just can’t say it enough.
We were going to go back for dinner as well but after walking 10 miles we could not stand anymore. Lauren and I wanted to try the paella because it looked so good; we looked to see if there were any seats available but unfortunately there weren’t any. We decided to go to a restaurant across the street where I got the shrimp and squid with black rice. Delicious. Everything we tried was delicious!
Madrid definitely surpassed my expectations. Lauren and I did not have an itinerary; we just started off at the Royal Palace and went from there. We stopped at the Botanical Gardens as well as the Buen Retiro Park which had a beautiful monument in the center. Walking around all day was perfect because we needed to keep busy otherwise we would have fallen asleep from the jet lag.
In my opinion, I do not think you need a lengthy stay here. Lauren and I saw a lot in one day; we could have done another day if we didn’t already have everything for Ibiza booked. The food alone was worth it. : )
Hope everyone has an amazing Monday! Follow my trip on Instagram and through my InstaStories!
